a recipe for
Sleeping Beauties
As Autumn is officially flourishing and the leaves are falling in shades of glorious golds and ambers, it’s the perfect time to share with you a lovely recipe for Rose & Vanilla Moon Milk. If you’re new to the idea of moon milk, then it is essentially warm milk mixed with a comforting blend of relaxing herbs and sleepy spices. It will make you feel warm and toasty, and help you to unwind so that you can drift off into dreamland like Sleeping Beauty.
I’ve been trying a few different concoctions, including a yummy cinnamon flavour that I really enjoyed too. Whilst I can’t say I’m a total expert on the subject, I’ve still been eager to share my favourite; rose and vanilla. The light floral flavour of the rose can be very soothing, and when mixed with dreamy vanilla it makes for a lovely combination. It’s reminds me of something Ladurée would serve if they were open in the moonlight.
This recipe makes enough for 1 large mug-full, and best of all it’s so quick and simple to make!
Ingredients
250ml Milk
2 tsp Edible Dried Rose Petals + extra for decoration
Rose Water Extract
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Method
♥ Heat your milk up in a saucepan on the hob on a medium temperature.
♥ Add in your dried rose petals and vanilla extract and stir.
♥ As your mixture starts to simmer, reduce the heat and add in a couple drops of rose water extract. Add more or less depending on how you like it as you may even find that the rose petals have added enough flavour.
♥ Once your milk is warm, take it off the heat and strain out the rose petals.
♥ Add a teeny tiny amount of pink food colouring if you wish.
♥ Transfer to your favourite mug. I love using my Chiffon Pink Grand Le Creuset Mug for this!
♥ For frothy milk on top, whisk up some of the warm milk mixture using a small handheld frother. I have a really affordable one that I purchased on Amazon. Simply add the foamed milk to the top of your moon milk for an extra dreamy drink.
♥ To finish add some edible dried rose petals for decoration. I scattered mine in a crescent moon shape to go with the theme!
Other ingredients you could try for an extra sleepy drink:
Almond milk: It contains Tryptophan, a nutrient that will help you sleep
Tart Cherry Juice: A natural source of melatonin and is full of antioxidants (will also turn your moon milk a lovely pink shade!)
Ashwagandha: A healthy medicinal herb proven to reduce stress and relax the mind
It’s the perfect seasonal treat to enjoy whilst cosied up on a rainy evening. So grab a fluffy blanket, light a scented candle, sip your warm mug of moon milk and unwind into dreamland.
I hope you enjoy the magic of Moon Milk!
